Cornet Damiro
Cornet Obolensky, the phenomenon of ‘never before’ (courtesy of http://cornetobolensky.com)
Never before has a stallion been so successful. Never before have we seen a stallion dominating all the international events with his first crop. Already 21 (!!) of Cornet Obolensky´s oldest offspring have advanced to the highest level of show jumping. Never before has a stallion been so prepotent in passing on his talent for top-level sport.
From the moment Cornet Obolensky set foot in the world of breeding, riders as well as breeders have been fascinated by this charming grey. At the 2001 Westphalian stallion inspection the audience watched breathlessly as this product of the golden combination Clinton x Heartbreaker just seemed to flirt with the jumps. In the 30-day test this phenomenal athlete received a 9.24 score for jumping aspects and a 10 for free jumping.
Once the stallion was teamed up with Marco Kutscher in the saddle the admiration for Cornet Obolensky´s jumping talent simply rocketed. The combination qualified for the Bundeschampionat´s finals with scores others can only dream of. With a casual ease they conquered the world´s most difficult courses as if it were child´s play.
Cornet Obolensky´s first crop of sons saw the immediate approval of top-class stallions Cristallo I (1.60m classes with Henrik von Eckermann), Cornado NRW (1.60m classes with Marcus Ehning) and Conte Bellini (the absolute revelation of the 2013 World Cup Finals in Göteborg under the Latvian rider Kristaps Neretieks). And there is Daniel Deusser´s phenomenal ace Cornet d´Amour, who also stems from Cornet Obolensky´s first crop. In 2013 this combination won the German Champion´s title and seized individual fourth place at the European Championships in Herning. Cornet Obolensky´s first crop also produced Marco Kutcher´s current top horse Cornet´s Cristallo and Emanuele Gaudiano´s EC star Cocoshynsky.
And it´s still early days for this already unparalleled career in the worldwide breeding scene of show jumping horses. At this stage Cornet Obolensky has at least 32 offspring competing at 1.60m level and we´re still counting. All these horses will be turning ten or eleven in 2014. What does this hold for the future?
Never before has a stallion so prominently shown to be in a class of his own. Never before has a stallion been such a proven progenitor for passing on his talent to his offspring.
Darco is a legendary showjumpig & breeding stallion, who competed at the top level of show jumping and has produced over 3000 foals in his breeding carear many of which have become succesfull showjumpers. Once again, Darco’s story, is the story of an exceptional broodmare - in this case, his grand-dam, Atoucha. Born in 1959 in Holland the mare was purchased by Fons Pauwels in 1960. Mr Pauwels was looking for a real ‘all-rounder’, a horse for both work and play. And this she did - working in the fields and in her ‘spare’ time, competing in dressage, showjumping and eventing competitions. She was twice - in 1968 and 1970 - the Belgian Eventing champion for Rural Riders, and three times a competitor at the European Rural Championships. According to her proud owner {and quoted in Leen Devocht’s excellent article on Darco in Breeding News, January 1997} her qualities were a legion: "very strong, healthy; not a single day of sickness in her book, an immense capacity for recovering; everlasting carefulness, even as an eventer; not a single refusal; always fighting and daring like a lioness - she could eat fences raw." Atoucha gave birth to eleven foals - ten fillies and one colt, Salvador, who went on to win the Berlin puissance. Darco’s dam, Ocoucha (by Codex} is the eldest daughter of Atoucha’s third daughter, Latoucha (by Faust}. Bred to one of the greatest of Belgian jumping stallions, Lugano van la Roche, Ocoucha produced Darco, who went on to prove himself a tough competitor on the international jumping scene.
Darco, who went on to prove himself a tough competitor on the international jumping scene with Ludo Phillippaerts. In 1988, Darco won his first World Cup qualifier, at Olympia, the following year, he won another Volvo for his rider, this time at s’Hertogenbosch. Darco and Ludo were sixth at the WEG in Stockholm, and 7th at the Barcelona Games. Ludo has this to say about the stallion: "Together with Darco, I began my international career. A horse to remain grateful to for the rest of my life. Darco really has everything it takes to make a unique super crack, as a showjumper as well as a sire. Horses of this outstanding quality will remain the great exceptions in the horse breeding industry. I will never forget the fine intelligence he so often proved in the showjumping arena, where he always showed lots of power and stamina coming from his high-bred ancestors." "I got Darco when he was five years old – he was a breeding stallion. All my success was with Darco, and then he was breeding at my place, and I had many of his foals.
All his progeny seem to be very good, and there are lots of people in the area, who use Darco, and they also give me horses by Darco to ride. My father was a horse breeder and had horses when he was younger." "The mares from Darco are not really mares for competition, they are mares for breeding. There are not so many Darco mares in the sport, they look a little difficult to ride but they have quality and they produce very good foals. There are many stallions in Holland and Belgium and France that can breed good foals with Darco mares. It is not necessary to have a particular stallion." Ludo Phillippaerts has had amazing success with offspring from Darco icluding his son Parco who is also showing himself to be a succesfull breeding stallion. In the WBFSH standings for 2013, Darco finished 7th, and 3rd in 2012. His most famous offspring is Otterongo who just missed out on an individual medal at the Sydney Olympic Games. Darco is a rather solid type and cross best over elegant mares with lots of blood Darco is one of the most succesfull BWP stallions of all time and was awarded their highest honour of "Ambassador" of the BWP studbook, he was also the best sire in the world according to the WBFSH ranking for sporthorses in 2007.

Over a period of of thirty years, the "Preferent" G Ramiro Z's performance as a sporthorse and breeding sire has clearly earned him the well deserved titles 'Stallion of the Century' and "King of Sires." Bred in Holstein, born in Westfalia, licensed at Neumünster, Ramiro Z was an international performer under Fritz Ligges, a stallion that has had a far reaching influence on the greatest acheiving sports horses of today. Ramiro was one of the first Holstein stallions to actually appear in competition unlike many others of that era. During his own sporting career he had numerous wins at all levels of show jumping including Nations Cups, Puissance (jumping over 2.2 metre) and in international Grand Prix competition.
Ramiro was the most popular progenitor of the Anglo Arab stallion "Ramzes" and by far the most frequented sire in Germany at that time. He stood at stud in Westfalia, Holstein, Zangersheide and Holland. Numerous sons and daughters conserve and pass on his valuable genes providing excellent rideability, movement and jumping talent. It comes therefore as no suprise that we find Ramiro's children and grandchildren at the top levels of showjumping and dressage today. A quick glance through the WBFSH rankings, some 15 years after his demise we can clearly identify the success of his descendants.
When Ramiro was presented for selection, he was described as the ideal type of the modern Holsteiner - strongly imprinted by his dam, a stallion of substance but lighter than the traditional Holsteiners of his time inheriting the strong topline of his , maternal grandfather the Thoroughbred stallion, Cottage Son xx. In movement Ramiro displayed a very good walk, a good trot, with an exceptional canter.
Presented at Ermello in Holland for acceptance into the KWPN studbook in 1980 he received a 9 for stable behaviour and Character. Ramiro's influence on the Dutch Warmblood breeding was, and still is of utmost importance. The Dutch awarded him the title 'Horse of the Year' in 1992 and went on to sire no less than 12 KWPN approved sons, to list only a few, Almiro, Architecht, Damiro, Diro, Elmero B, Bernstein, Royal Bravour and the ZZZ level dressage stallion Zeoliete exported to the USA, out of the Keur Pref Preferent mare, Sargab" (Abgar x Nimrod)

From his first breeding season, he sired the fabulous mare, "Fatinitza" out of a the Holstein mare "Pommerantz" Loewnjaeger x Heidleberg) show jumping victory after victory under Fritz Ligges and Thomas Frühmann, and later mother of the Zangersheide stallion, Almiro Z when bred to Almez Z. Ramiro's second season saw him in Holstein where he produced three stallions: Rinaldo (out of a Trakehner x Holstein mare), Rio Negro, (Pernod x Zew xx) who became a Grand Prix dressage horse, trained by Willi Schultheis, and L Ronald out of a Heilbutt x Monarch mare. L Ronald was for many years a popular stallion in Holstein, where he sired five licensed sons and more than a hundred top broodmares, many of whom became mothers of sires such as Alcatraz, Lord Incipit, Larno, Le Grand - all exquisite and excellent sporthorses. L Ronald, like his famous father, went to Holland - where he stood for five years, and also sired, the KWPN show jumping sire Saluut who appears in the pedigrees of Libero H by Landgraf x L Ronald and Hatttick, Ahorn x L Ronald.
In addition he became the strongest and most successful sire for Leon Melchior's performance breeding program at Zangersheide. Whilst at Zangersheide Stud Ramiro was presented with a selection of superbly bred jumping mares including the famous foundation mare, Heureka Z who competed successfully up to 1.60m Internationally. Huerka Z was bred to Alme Z and produced the daughter Argentina Z who when bred to Ramiro produced Ratina Z. Ridden by Piet Raymakers and Ludger Beerbaum, Ratina Z won World Cup Finals, the European Championships, the Grand Prix of Aachen, individual Olympic Silver, double Olympic Team Gold, Team Gold at the WEG, and twice team gold at the European championships. Argentina Z also produced the Ramiro Stallion sons sons: Rebel I Z, Rebel II Z, Rebel III Z and Rock Z none of which produced the same results in competition as thier full sister. Ratina Z Now a mother herself Ratina since produced the approved stallions "Crown Z by Carthago ridden by Judy-Ann Melchior in competition up to 1.40m at the young age of eight and more recently "Comme Il Faut" by the up and coming Cornet Obolensky approved by the Westphalian stud book in 2008.
As well as his impressive ancestry and sports results, another of G Ramiro Z's greatest assets was his fertility and semen quality. It was of such a good standard that it was used in the research of artificial insemination and frozen semen to produce the science we know today.

Black imported licensed stallion owned by Lorette Taylor Sire: Quarelybet Hero ( Baloubet du Rouet x Galoubet x Darco) Sire of Dam: Quidam de Revel ( Jalisco B x Alme x Fantastique) Currently competing in the 1.50m classes with Lorette Taylor |
Querlybet’s pedigree is a cross between the best French and Belgian bloodlines.
His sire is the exceptional Baloubet du Rouet and his dam is the equally famous Narcotique de Muze. His dam’s sire is the great Darco. Narcotique de Muze, was an excellent international winner with Canadian rider Eric Lamaze and has produced many CSI/CSIO/CSIW performers and his 2nd dam, Qerly Chin, is widely-recognized as perhaps the best mare in all of Belgium. Narcotique belongs to the BWP dam line #34, which has produced many champions. Querlybet ranks 49th in the 2017 WBFSH Top Jumping Sires. He was named Ambassador of the BWP in 2014 thanks to the quality of his progeny. He retired from competition in 2014. Querlybet shows lots of scope, strength, respect and style over the fences that he transmits to his offspring. He also passes his good canter and his innate jumping technique. He will fit smaller compact mares because he tends to produce larger horses and will complement those who need to improve their hindquarter technique. |

Baloubet du Rouet is a phenomenon in horse breeding. Whilst he never stood at stud in Germany, 300 of his progeny are registered in Germany with 130 successful up to advanced level/S level. Amongst his 25 licensed sons in Germany, the lifetime earnings millionaire Balou du Rouet is an absolute exception.
Baloubet du Rouet and Rodrigo Pessoa were seen as the dream combination in the international show jumping circuit: they won the World Cup three times, and in 2001, they narrowly missed what could have been their fourth victory and instead became vice-champions. The pair won several Grand Prix competitions, one of them in Geneva. In 2000, they won the Team Bronze Medal at the Olympic Games in Sydney and in 2004, the Individual Gold Medal in Athens. In 2012 and 2013, Baloubet du Rouet was the leading sire of the WBFSH show jumping world ranking list. Currently he holds fourth place. Many of his French, Belgian and Dutch bred progeny are internationally successful, with Paloubet d’Hallong leading the way as the most expensive show jumper in the world. |
His sire Galoubet A, ridden by Gilles Bertrand de Ballanda in the 1980´s, was one of the most successful horses in the international show jumping circuit at that time. He won, amongst other successes, 19 international Grand Prix, was placed fifth in the World Cup finals of 1981 and was a team member of the French Gold Medal team at the World Equestrian Games in Dublin 1982, where, in the individual round, he was placed fifth. Galoubet sired more than 30 licensed sons.
The dam, Mesange du Rouet also produced the internationally successful mare Linadore du Rouet. The grand dam produced Globule, who was dam to the known athletes Urtos du Rouet, Inadie du Rouet, Ondet du Rouet and Salsa du Rouet, as well as the stallion Quatoubet du Rouet. The dam sire Starter was a son of the internationally appraised thoroughbred Rantzau xx and through him was half- brother of the line foundation stallions Cor de la Bryère and Fier de Lui Z. In the fourth generation Baloubet is inbred again with Rantzau xx. |

This stunning stallion is such a rare find in South Africa, being a direct son of Chacco Blue (Rated number one on the WBFSH rankings for showjumping). And his dam sire, Consuelo, is rated number 1 in South Africa for Showjumping. Sire: Chacco Blue Dam sire: Consuelo Ridden by: Lorette Taylor Level: Currently graded 1.30m and still going |
For most of his life, from 2007 to 2010, Chacco-Blue was ridden for Paul Schockemöhle by Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst. They were moderately successful on the international scene: the pair were 3rd in the Grand Prix of Falsterbo, 2nd at Hachenburg, first in a 1.60 at Olympia, for total lifetime earnings of €289,517, but it is as a sire that Chacco-Blue has been a star. He was a horse with a wonderful attitude, he always wanted to go, he was not spooky at all. The only thing that made it a little bit harder for me in the beginning was that I didn’t have total control, but we found our way together, and for sure he was one of the best horses I have ridden.
I think the outstanding feature of the motherline is the grand dam, a half bred mare, Godahra II, by the Thoroughbred, Godavari (Tudor Minstrel line). In the Eastern part of Germany she was very popular, she used to win a lot of metre thirty, metre forty. She must have had really good sports spirit, because she was winning and many people were talking about her. She was small (167 cm) but she had a big heart and she was a fighter. I guess that this is a very strong part in Chacco-Blue’s bloodline. I believe that if you see the offspring of Chacco-Blue, almost 99% have a super technique, a big heart, a good attitude to work, and this might come from this very strong grand-mother.
He has given to the next generation a wonderful technique, front leg technique, and the most obvious thing is the positive attitude to the sport. Some of the horses, they might be a little bit delicate in the beginning, when they are young they are a little bit freaky, a little bit spooky, not really spooky but their senses are 100%, what they hear, what they see, and it takes them a little while to settle. This is not a weakness, this is something that every good young horse has.

Don Quichotte Van De Riethoeve
|
Breed: BWP Sire: Poor Boy (by Polydor) Dam: Knappe Van Heyvelde Sire of Dam: Goldspring De Lauzelle (by Gotthard) Height: 16.2hh Don Quichotte is a very striking BWP stallion imported into SA in 2013. Currently out through injury, his connections are hopeful of a speedy return to competition as his few outings into the show-jumping arena had spectators jaws wagging due to his presence, scope, power and very correct technique. A well balanced mix of bravery and sensitivity. Owned by Aiden Lithgow |
Don Quichotte is the half brother (same dam) to Tolano, the sire of Kent Farrington's Voyeur, who was part of the US Olympic team that won silver in Rio 2016. Voyeur was also one of the individual finalists who went through to the jump off. Lucy Davis's superstar horse Barron, also a member of the US Olympic team, is out of a daughter of Knappe Van Heyvelde, the dam of both Tolano and Don Quichotte. What other South African domiciled stallion can boast two Olympic silver medalists in their immediate family on the dam side? Don Quichotte is by Poor Boy, a top level show jumper himself and who is also the full brother of Sonora La Silla (ridden by Jan Tops), still rated as one of the greatest show jumping mares in the history of the sport. Polydor was twice honored with the title "sire of the world", the world’s best transmitter of showjumpers. Gotthard is truly one of the greats. For 7yrs he was the leading sire of showjumpers in Germany - his influence continues to the present day. During his time he sired over 34 licensed stallion sons. Don Quichotte is an even tempered stallion that even a small child could ride, a true gentleman that loves affection as much as he loves life itself. This stallion will give strength, power, scope and movement. The blood of the founding fathers of the BWP (Gottard, Lugano) are for the most part rare today, yet feature in the pedigree of this quality animal. |

Cor De La Bryere
Selle Francais Stallion
Born 1968 - Standing 169cm
Cor de la Bryère is the stallion that revolutionised jumping horse breeding. His is the name astute breeders like to see, especially on the mare line for ‘Cord’ tends to give great form over a jump.

The horse was now on the market – and it just so happened that the Holstein Association was looking for French blood, having seen the success of Furioso II and Futuro in Oldenburg. Oldenburg breeder (and showjumping ace) Alwin Schockemöhle was looking for a stallion star, and leased the Furioso xx son Urioso – however he was prepared to sub-lease the stallion to the Holstein Verband. Hence a Holstein inspection committee travelled to France to evaluate Urioso and in doing so, discovered Cor de la Bryère. Urioso ended up standing two forgettable seasons in Holstein while ‘Cord’ left an indelible mark on the Holstein breed, and jumping the world over.
He was not only a sire himself but a sire of sires. The full brothers, Caletto I, II and III were stars, as were the brother quartet of Calypso I to V. In the jumping arena, his handsome grey son, Corrado has been a star for Franke Sloothaak, while Cordalmé Z with Gilbert Böckmann has also been successful at international level

Olympic Ferro sired the champion of the three-year-old stallions at s'Hertogenbosch in 2000, and has nine young stallions in the second round there in 2001. The champion three year old mare at Ermelo in 2000 was an Olympic Ferro daughter. Much is expected of this charming, talented black stallion who achieved the title of "Keur" in 2000. The most famous daughter of Landadel must be the mare, Lady Weingard, who was ridden in her career by Markus Beerbaum, winning Gold in the European Championships in Mannheim. Landadel is also represented by the mare, Luna Luna, who has been successful at World Cup Qualifier level with Vicki Roycroft of Australia. |
Mr.Bojangles is the magnificent Tobiano Warmblood Stud Stallion by the imported KWPN Stallion, Waldemar G out of the imported Belgium Warmblood mare Oshi. Mr.Bojangles boasts correct conformation, powerful, floating movement, modern in type, a great temperament, good technique and scope when jumping, and has a beautiful topline and head.
Already winning many competitions, Mr.Bojangles is proving himself to be a Stallion for anyone looking for that “something special” in their foals as well as being talented, well mannered and correctly conformed. Boasting great jumping lines as well as dressage lines, Mr.Bojangles will suit any tall, slender, good moving Warmblood or Warmblood x TB mare with any type of temperament. Mr.Bojangles is described as a “Modern Type” Stallion and is currently standing 16.2hh. The lovely chestnut mare, Oshi, is the dam of Mr Bojangles, imported from Belgium, by Landadel out of Fantastique. Oshi successfully jumped B-grade before an unfortunate injury that took her off the competition scene. Oshi won a puissance of over 1.8 metres and has now proved to be a successful broodmare, having foals of wonderful charisma and talent. Oshi’s sire, Landadel was something special. He was champion of his 100 day test at Medingen in 1985. Landadel is one of those rarest of creatures - a stallion that sires top dressage as well as jumping progeny. At the 2001 World Cup, Landadel was unique in producing representatives in both the dressage and jumping finals, with the exquisite Leondardo da Vinci in the dressage with Gonnelien Rothenberger, and, in the jumping, Helena Weinberg's Little Gun. In the 1999/2000 WBFSH standings, Landadel had 14 representatives on the jumping list and three on the dressage. Landadel is regarded as the most important son of Landgraf - and carries a double cross of the great Ladykiller, and bears out the theory that Landgraf worked best with mares with a high proportion of Thoroughbred blood. |
